As a Chinese individual who has lived in the UK for several years, I have observed a wide demand for Chinese products globally. However, many of these products sold internationally are more expensive than in China, often featuring outdated designs, limited variations, or just basic functions. Additionally, foreign individuals who wish to engage in small-scale cross-border trade face major challenges due to language barriers and limited resources including financial resources.
Recently, one of my Indian friends wanted to import a few Chinese electric bikes and sell them to his clients. After a few chats with him, I noticed he had no knowledge of Chinese brands or the latest innovations. For example, he was unaware that Yadea is China’s leading electric scooter brand or that the company had introduced self-balancing technology years ago to prevent tipping.
To address these issues, I am developing an AI agent that assists users with:
Instantly identifying major Chinese brands and manufacturers of a given product, along with relevant international purchasing links for direct orders and product specifications.
Providing market trend analysis through Chinese social media, allowing users to track emerging trends in China’s manufacturing industry. This enables entrepreneurs without significant capital or background to discover innovative Chinese products and bring them to global markets.
Users enter English keywords related to a product or industry.
The system translates the keywords into Chinese and performs searches across major Chinese platforms.
The AI extracts relevant content, including reviews, videos, tags, and more.
The platform curates and organizes the retrieved content, displaying: video thumbnails,excerpts from notes and articles, engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares)
AI processes the aggregated content to extract key insights.
The trends are categorized under:
E-commerce trends (new products, emerging markets)
Social media discussions (popular topics, viral items)
Lifestyle shifts (consumer behavior, new preferences)
Insights are presented using a tag-based system for easy navigation.
The AI identifies top brands and products based on: market reputation, innovation level, consumer feedback....
This product uses autonomous AI agents to write, optimize, and execute code for data retrieval, trend analysis, and product insights. These agents enable multi-step reasoning and continuous refinement. LLM-powered ideation (e.g., ChatGPT) helps enhance system design, refine prompts, and structure workflows. By automating tasks and integrating AI-driven ideas, the system makes cross-border trade research more efficient and accessible.
The system will continuously improve by integrating user feedback and refining its search and analysis algorithms.
This AI assistant aims to democratize access to Chinese products and market trends, enabling more individuals to participate in cross-border trade efficiently and effectively. Here, I prefer to present my project and ideas. If they receive a positive response, I would consider further development to expand its use cases.
Since there is still one significant challenge lies in accessing data from Chinese social media platforms including API restrictions, data compliance concerns, and access limitations.
Many Chinese social media platforms impose strict limitations on API access. Most official APIs are only available to enterprises or specific partners, requiring rigorous approval processes and often imposing rate limits. Some APIs have even been discontinued (e.g., Zhihu, Baidu Tieba). Public APIs, such as those from Weibo and Douyin, provide limited functionality, making in-depth data analysis difficult. For platforms without official APIs (e.g., Xiaohongshu, Bilibili), data retrieval relies on web scraping or third-party services, which come with risks such as account bans, legal compliance issues, and anti-scraping measures.
This AI-powered cross-border trade assistant is designed to bridge the gap between global buyers and the Chinese market by simplifying access to product information, brand insights, and market trends. By leveraging AI to break down language and data barriers, this tool empowers individuals—regardless of financial or technical background—to discover, analyze, and capitalize on opportunities in the world’s largest manufacturing hub. As the project evolves, it has the potential to transform how small-scale entrepreneurs engage in cross-border commerce, making high-quality Chinese products more accessible and competitive worldwide.
